Dr. Angela Broaddus

Dr. Angela Broaddus is a professor of mathematics at Benedictine College, where she teaches both mathematics and mathematics education courses. Her journey into teaching began long before that, in public and private school classrooms where she worked with middle and high school students.

Those early years shaped everything she believes about how children learn. She saw firsthand what happens when students are asked to memorize without understanding. She also witnessed the quiet transformation that occurs when a child finally sees why a mathematical idea works. Those moments became her passion.

Her research explores productive learning pathways. She studies how understanding develops and how instruction and assessment can support that growth. But she is not confined to theory. Dr. Broaddus spends her time working directly with students and teachers, listening to their struggles and celebrating their breakthroughs.

What makes her approach so effective is how she speaks to her readers. She does not hide behind academic language or complicated jargon. Instead, she explains ideas with warmth, clarity, and the patience of someone who has taught thousands of lessons. She anticipates where confusion might arise and guides you around it before you even stumble.

Dr. Broaddus believes that everyone can make sense of mathematics through the right instructional experiences. This book is her invitation to parents and teachers everywhere. She wants you to know that you do not need a math degree to help a child succeed. You just need the right tools and a willingness to see math differently.
